This course identifies the types of supports that adult learners need to be truly prepared for college and careers. It introduces the core functions and responsibilities of a Navigator, such as coordinating and providing services that supplement academic instruction – which have been found to aid student persistence and success. It also introduces the core competencies of effective Navigators, advising approaches and styles, and Navigator program design elements to consider.

Finding True North is the first in the pair of online professional development courses for college and career navigators developed by the National College Transition Network (NCTN) at World Education.  The courses are designed for college and career navigators, coaches, advisors, and case managers who provide direct support and coordinate a comprehensive network of services to assist adult students in attaining their educational and career goals.

Navigating Pathways to Opportunity, the second course, is a facilitated course that entails approximately 24 hours of learning over 5-6 weeks. This is a tuition-based course that is available to cohorts of 12 or more participants recruited and enrolled by a state or institution.
