This course is brought to you through a partnership between World Education and the College and Career Pathways Institute at LaGuardia Community College.
Do your students want to build confidence, develop academic skills and pursue pathways to meaningful careers? Recent research and adult education redesign initiatives highlight the need to rethink adult education curricula to support students’ short and long term education and career goals. Contextualized instruction is an effective classroom practice that helps students develop academic skills and career awareness of current industry and sector-focused issues. In this highly participatory course you will learn more about the principles and techniques of contextualized instruction that will help you to achieve your long-term instructional goals.

Target Audience(s): This course is designed for instructors, curriculum developers and program coordinators working with adults and out of school youth in high school equivalency, college prep, and upper level ESOL and pre-HSE classes.

Team Teaching – Models and Practice is aimed at guiding basic skills and professional-technical instructors in learning how to identify the six models of team teaching, to reflect on their own model preferences and what other models could offer, and to develop an awareness of how team teaching is an opportunity for professional growth. This course is a prerequisite for the Team Teaching an Integrated Curriculum to Accelerate Learning facilitated course.

Team Teaching an Integrated Curriculum is designed to prepare basic skills and professional-technical instructor teams to work together to provide low-skilled adults the basic and workforce skills they need to succeed along their chosen career pathways. Instructors’ collaboration entails communicating effectively to plan and deliver integrated curriculum, and to maintain a balanced, effective partnership.
