Contextualized Instruction

with Wynne Ferdinand

Calendar Apr 16, 2018

This course is brought to you through a partnership between World Education and the College and Career Pathways Institute at LaGuardia Community College.

Do your students want to build confidence, develop academic skills and pursue pathways to meaningful careers? Recent research and adult education redesign initiatives highlight the need to rethink adult education curricula to support students’ short and long term education and career goals. Contextualized instruction is an effective classroom practice that helps students develop academic skills and career awareness of current industry and sector-focused issues. In this highly participatory course you will learn more about the principles and techniques of contextualized instruction that will help you to achieve your long-term instructional goals.

“I think that this course has been the missing piece I need to help me develop a series of reading and writing classes for my students that include career standards. Everyone has been a great source of information and ideas, making this course very concrete and hands-on.” Karen Scrutchfield, Bangor Adult and Community Education, ME

Target Audience(s): This course is designed for instructors, curriculum developers and program coordinators working with adults and out of school youth in high school equivalency, college prep, and upper level ESOL and pre-HSE classes.

Estimated Completion Time: 3-4 hours/week (24 hours total)
